Labworks - Boneworks Port

Labworks ports Boneworks levels, weapons and NPCs to the sequel game Bonelab as a mod directly downloadable in-game using mod.io. Boneworks originally was only released on PC, with no native Quest support. Labworks fixes this allowing users to run Boneworks with a variety of performance enchancements to get >45 FPS natively on the Quest 2.

For Labworks I worked on porting all the interactable systems from Boneworks' main campaign and optimising levels through asynchronous chunking (loading parts of the level in/out of memory) and almost everything else that wasn't directly visual based.

This required reverse engineering not only all of Boneworks mechanics and implementations but also Bonelab's and the updates / changes Stress Level Zero made between the two games. Labworks has given me the experience of working on a fully built VR title and taught me the ins and outs in creating a variety of systems. It has also taught me how to deal with large scale asset management, creating detailed Unity Editor tools along with in-depth knowledge into how Unity stores data internally.

Over the 2 Years of active development on the project I slowly built up a team of testers, VFX developers and moderation team as the project grew in popularity within the Bonelab community. The discord server sits around 4,000 members with the mod garnishing 600,000 downloads and even some media coverage.
